CHARACTER

Name: Jill Valentine
Journal: risenstars
Canon: Resident Evil
Canon Point: In her rehabilitation, post-RE5 (as per her letter in Rev2)
Age: 35 (circa 2009)
Appearance: Jill is 5’8” and described as a woman of “compact strength,” with an athletic body kept in fighting shape. She has blue eyes, white skin, and naturally brown hair that she keeps in a long ponytail. Due to the experiments performed on her, she suffered a bit of a bleaching effect. Her skin is now paler than normal and her hair grows in pale blonde. (NOTE: My icons are all over the place, but assume she's got brown hair with blonde roots until she gets a method to keep it brown.) Jill ordinarily dresses in plain, comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in, particularly tactical clothing. Under her clothes, she has some unusual scars around her chest, over her sternum.

Personality:
Jill Valentine has spent her entire adult life serving as a police officer or a paramilitary agent, fighting against the scourge of bioterrorism. Since emerging as one of the only survivors of the infamous Mansion Incident, Jill has dedicated every ounce of her energy to protecting the world from biochemical weapons, and punishing those who would use them. She is righteous and compassionate and would never hesitate to risk her own life for someone else.

Jill is known for being a cool-headed and rational person. Where others lose their tempers and rush into situations, Jill is the type to take things slowly and thoughtfully, and is renowned for her ability to stay calm under extreme situations. She is a quick-thinker, though, and her ability to improvise and come up with solutions on the fly has saved her from many a gruesome zombie and monster-related death. She is an excellent and dependable partner, particularly when she can serve as a calming force on impulsive or fiery personalities (such as her longtime partner and best friend, Chris Redfield.) She has a wry and understated sense of humor, particularly with those she works closely with.

Like most RE protagonists, Jill eats, sleeps, and breathes her job. She showed an astounding dedication and skill for law enforcement even from an early age. By her early 20s, she was already recognized as a prodigy in police bomb disposal and trained alongside the US Army. Her acceptance onto the Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S. team at age 23 speaks to her talents, as the team was hand-picked to serve as an elite police unit. She is professional and has a strong sense of camaraderie with her teammates. After nearly all of the S.T.A.R.S. team died in the Mansion Incident, she is driven to protect her comrades and takes it extremely personally when they are hurt in the line of duty. Jill will drop everything to aid a friend in need-- she once rushed out in search of Chris when he dropped off the radar for a measly 12 hours.

Jill is also used to existing and excelling in male-dominated environments, and often comes off as “one of the boys” herself. For a time, she was the only woman on the S.T.A.R.S. team; she not only kept up with, but exceeded the performance of many of her male colleagues. Her marksmanship is excellent, and she uses her agility and speed to make up for what she might lack in raw strength and power. Few have ever dared to challenge her abilities or suggest that she can’t perform as well as her male counterparts, and those who have were quickly proven wrong.

Her experiences on the front lines of the infamous Raccoon City outbreak have made her an influential figure in the ongoing fight on bioterrorism, and she is one of the founding members of the BSAA-- showing aptitude for collaboration and planning (because it certainly wasn't Chris doing all that organizational work by himself.) Jill is highly respected within the BSAA, and referred to as “the famous Jill Valentine” on more than one occasion. She is eager to use her experiences and her talents to help others, though it seems that since the destruction of Raccoon City in 1998, she has not had much of a life outside of her job.

In fact, Jill’s work-life balance is a complete mess, and she doesn’t seem to know what to do herself when she’s not working. Her social life is nonexistent, and she is so driven to serve in her career that concerns for her own health and safety are often left by the wayside. One example of this is in 1998, when Jill remained in Raccoon City long after it became apparent just how dangerous the outbreak situation was becoming. Even after all of Jill’s teammates left to pursue Umbrella, Jill stubbornly stayed behind to plead her case to the police and to protect the city as best she could. Jill ends up nearly dying for her efforts, including a brief scare with T-virus infection and outrunning a nuke by only a few minutes. Call it stubbornness, but Jill is unwilling to let other people do the job that she feels she should be doing herself.

Another, and ultimate example of Jill's selflessness was in 2006, the year she "died." When a mission went wrong, Jill sacrificed herself to protect Chris by throwing herself out a window with nemesis Albert Wesker. Grievously wounded, she was captured and used for years as a test subject, and later as a brainwashed servant. Jill suffered physical side-effects from the experiments, as well as the horrific experience of being mind-controlled and forced to carry out Wesker’s will while still aware of her actions. Under his command, Jill was cruelly used to infect people with mutating viruses, to kill Wesker’s enemies, and even to attack her own friends and comrades.

But even in the immediate wake of being freed from her imprisonment, Jill is desperate to contribute to making things right, pushing herself beyond her physical capacity and nearly getting herself killed. Again. She is sent to be rehabilitated at BSAA headquarters after her rescue, but in letters expresses her frustration at being taken out of the fight, and anticipation for when she can return to the field. Just as she was willing to forsake her own safety for her partner's, she is willing to throw away her own physical and mental recovery if it means she will be able to keep fighting-- and it is only a matter of time before she runs herself into the ground for the sake of the fight. For Jill, it is not enough to have contributed to making the world a better place-- it is a war that she is determined to keep fighting personally, no matter what price she must pay.

Abilities:
Jill is highly athletic, with a strong and fit body trained in hand-to-hand combat. She proves highly agile, able to jump and climb up to difficult-to-reach places, and her fighting style incorporates many high kicks and other acrobatic moves. She also has police officer training, supplemented by years of experience in paramilitary operations with the BSAA. She is skilled with a wide variety of firearms and other weapons (grenades, knives, rocket launchers, etc.)

Jill is also well-known for her mechanical skills and her nimble fingers. She is mentioned as being top of her class in bomb disposal, enough to be accepted into an elite US Army training program. And of course, as the infamous "Master of Unlocking," Jill is peerless when it comes to picking locks.

While escaping from Raccoon City in the outbreak of 1998, Jill was infected with the T-virus and nearly succumbed to it. With a friend's assistance she was given a vaccine, and the virus went dormant in her system. Since then, her body was found to have developed powerful antibodies that make her unusually resistant to diseases and especially to mutagenic viruses. Her blood contains these antibodies, and they are all that saved her from becoming a mutated horror in Wesker's custody. (In face, Wesker used her blood antibodies to develop stronger viruses. The asshole.)
